History
Sugihara Station opened on 20 August 1932 as a stop on the Takayama Main Line in what is now the city of Hida, Gifu Prefecture. It served the rural communities along the line connecting Gifu with Toyama via the upper Hida River valley. With the privatisation of the Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, operation passed to the Central Japan Railway Company, which still runs the unattended station today. Sugihara sits 180.5 kilometres from the official starting point of the line at Gifu and consists of two opposed ground-level side platforms linked by a level crossing.
