History
Ashikagashi Station opened on 27 August 1907 as Ashikagamachi Station (足利町駅) with the opening of the line from Kawamata; through-service to Ōta followed on 17 February 1909. With the municipal incorporation of Ashikaga on 1 January 1921, the station was renamed Ashikagashi ("Ashikaga City") on 25 August 1924. On 16 November 1934 an Imperial special train carried Emperor Shōwa from the station to Ōta after the conclusion of a special army manoeuvre in the prefecture. The station and surrounding 2.98 km of track were elevated by 23 July 1980, with a new station building completed under the viaduct in December 1981. On 18 March 2007 PASMO became usable. From 17 March 2012 station numbering was applied to all Tōbu lines and Ashikagashi became TI-15. Following a timetable revision on 18 March 2006, semi-express through-services were renamed and limited-express "Ryōmō" became the only daytime train running directly to Asakusa. On 24 July 2015 a station departure-melody using Chisato Moritaka's 1993 song "Watarasebashi" was introduced. In July 2022 the city's relocation and settlement support centre moved here from JR Ashikaga Station and was rebranded "En no sita."

Notes
In the daytime, the only Tobu Isesaki Line trains running through to Asakusa from Ashikagashi are limited-express "Ryōmō" and "Liberty Ryōmō" services; between Tatebayashi and Ōta on the Isesaki Line, Ashikagashi is the only intermediate station with automatic ticket gates.
