History
Matsuida Station opened on 15 October 1885 on the Shin'etsu Main Line in what is today the city of Annaka, Gunma Prefecture. On 15 July 1962 the line between Takasaki and Yokokawa was electrified and the station was relocated approximately two kilometres towards Takasaki, abolishing its switchback layout; freight handling continued at the old site until 19 September 1963 because local opposition delayed completion of the new building. A two-storey reinforced-concrete station house opened on 12 August 1963. Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 February 1984, the station passed to JR East on 1 April 1987, Suica IC-card service began on 14 March 2009, and the station was un-staffed on 1 October 2018.

Notes
Until 1962 the original Matsuida Station operated as a switchback to climb the gradient toward the Usui Pass; relocation removed both the switchback and the station from the town centre, which is now closer to Nishi-Matsuida.
