History
Hanyū Station opened on 23 April 1903 with the Tobu Railway's extension between Kazo and Kawamata. The private Hokubu Railway opened a parallel line to Gyōdashi on 1 April 1921 and merged into Chichibu Railway in August 1922, giving the station two operators. The interval to Kawamata was double-tracked in September 1992, ending the use of Hanyū terminating services. An elevated joint station house was completed on 22 October 2004, separating the Tobu and Chichibu fare gates. Station numbering TI 07 was introduced on 17 March 2012 and Chichibu Railway PASMO acceptance began on 12 March 2022.

Notes
The two railways once shared a single fare gate, and after each rebuild Hanyū has carried two platforms both numbered 4 — one operated by Tobu and one by Chichibu — due to the order in which the lines were renumbered between 2004 and 2006.
