History

Midoriko Station opened on 5 July 1983 as a Japanese National Railways station coinciding with the inauguration of the Enrei Tunnel, which created a shortcut between Okaya and Shiojiri on the Chuo Main Line. The new alignment diverted the bulk of services, including limited expresses, away from the older Tatsuno-routed track, dramatically shortening journeys between the Suwa and Matsumoto basins. The station passed to East Japan Railway Company on 1 April 1987. It was added to the Tokyo metropolitan suburban area in April 2014 and gained Suica acceptance in April 2017. Station numbering CO 60 was assigned in February 2025.

Notes

The station replaced the Higashi-Shiojiri signal stop on the old line, which had handled passengers as a temporary halt; a stone monument on the down platform commemorates the new station's opening.
