History

Kiso-Hirasawa Station opened on 5 June 1930 as a passenger and freight stop on the Japanese Government Railways Chūō Main Line between Niekawa and Narai. The original station had no passing facilities, but on 12 December 1959 the station building was relocated 520 metres towards Nagoya to allow trains to pass. Freight handling was withdrawn on 30 November 1972 and parcel handling on 1 February 1984; the station became unattended on 22 March 1985. In May 1986 the Niekawa-to-station section was realigned onto a new alignment using the Gongen Tunnel, which is double-tracked in profile but used as single track. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Central.

Notes

Although a local-only stop, Kiso-Hirasawa receives temporary stops by some Shinano limited-express trains during the three-day Kiso Lacquerware Festival each early June.
