History

Yabuhara Station opened on 5 October 1910 as the temporary terminus when state-owned railways extended the Chūō East Line from Narai. It became a through station on 25 November 1910 with the further extension to Miyanokoshi, and the line was renamed Chūō Main Line on 1 May 1911. Freight handling ended on 30 November 1972 and parcel service on 1 February 1984. The station was destaffed and switched to a simplified consignment arrangement on 22 March 1985, then passed to JR Central at the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987. It lies in Yabuhara, Kiso Village, Nagano Prefecture, and remains the village's only railway station; the wooden station building dates from opening.
