History

Abiko Station opened on 25 December 1896 in the city of Abiko, Chiba, as a junction stop on what is now the Jōban Line, and later became the terminus of the Narita Line's Abiko Branch toward Narita. Operated by JR East, it lies 31.3 kilometres from the Jōban Line's terminus at Ueno Station in Tokyo. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987 the station came under JR East's control. The elevated station has three island platforms and one side platform serving seven tracks, with a Midori no Madoguchi staffed ticket office. The station handled an average of 31,590 daily passengers in fiscal 2019, reflecting its role as a commuter hub for the eastern Tokyo-Chiba corridor.

Notes

Although the JR system also serves an Abiko Station on the Osaka Loop Line, Wikipedia distinguishes the two by appending the prefecture name in the article title.
