History
Higashi-Abiko Station opened on 12 October 1950 as a passenger stop on the Japan National Railways Narita Line in the city of Abiko, Chiba. Until Tennōdai opened nearby, it served as the only railway station for the Shimogato and Okahatsudo districts. Crossing-loop construction began in September 1967 and entered service on 28 March 1968. With the opening of Tennōdai around 1971 the station was destaffed, and electrification of the Abiko-Narita section in October 1973 brought a north exit. Privatisation transferred the station to JR East on 1 April 1987, and Suica IC-card service began on 18 November 2001. The station now has two opposed side platforms whose floor sits noticeably below modern carriage thresholds, linked by an interior crossing near the Abiko end.

Notes
A 2018 signage refresh styled the kanji 我 in the south-side station name like a golf ball, a nod to the adjacent Abiko Golf Club.
