History
Higashi-Hannō Station opened on 10 December 1931 as a joint station of the Japanese Government Railways (Hachikō South Line) and the Musashino Railway (today's Seibu Ikebukuro Line) in Hannō, Saitama. At the time it was the terminus of the JGR's Hachikō South Line, which extended through to Ogose on 15 April 1933 and was renamed the Hachikō Line in October 1934. Electrification of the Hachikō Line between Hachiōji and Komagawa was completed on 16 March 1996. A bridged station building entered service on 10 February 1999, separating JR and Seibu fare-gates. East entrance and the Marubiro department store were added on 6 October 2000. JR East assumed operations at privatisation on 1 April 1987.

Notes
Although Seibu and JR East operate Higashi-Hannō as separate stations with their own fare-gates, the platform numbers continue across both — JR's lowest active number is 2 because Seibu holds number 1.
