History
Minami-Kashiwa Station opened on 1 October 1953 as a Japanese National Railways stop on the Jōban Line in present-day Kashiwa, Chiba, filling the long gap between Kita-Kogane and Kashiwa. Layout went from two opposed side platforms to two platforms with three tracks in October 1961, then reverted to a single island platform in April 1970 as the line was prepared for quadruple-tracking and Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line through-running, which began on 20 April 1971. An elevated station building with a new east entrance was completed in December 1971. JR East took over at privatisation on 1 April 1987, Suica service began in November 2001, and smart platform doors entered service on 28 October 2021.

Notes
Since the 16 March 2019 timetable revision, Minami-Kashiwa departures have used the train-mounted melodies rather than platform-mounted ones — JR East found this reduced last-second dashing onto the platform.
