History

Mitake Station opened on 1 September 1929 as the terminus of the Ōme Electric Railway between Futamatao and Mitake, in what is now Ōme, Tokyo. The railway was nationalised on 1 April 1944, and the line was extended beyond Mitake to Hikawa (now Okutama) on 1 July 1944, making the station an intermediate stop. The station passed to East Japan Railway Company on 1 April 1987 with the breakup of Japanese National Railways. In 1999 it was selected among the Kantō Region Top 100 Stations for its hillside platform and shrine-style station building.
