History
Takenotsuka Station opened on 21 March 1900, about seven months after Tōbu's Isesaki Line began service. Originally in Ikō Village, it was absorbed into Tokyo City in 1932 and became the city's northernmost station. Through-running with the Eidan (now Tokyo Metro) Hibiya Line began on 31 May 1962. Northbound double-tracking to Kita-Senju reached Takenotsuka on 2 July 1974. A fatal crossing accident on 15 March 2005 led Adachi Ward to launch a continuous grade-separation project. The down express tracks were elevated on 29 May 2016, and the slow tracks on 20 March 2022. Platform doors entered service on 16 April 2022, and the EQUiA Takenotsuka retail concourse opened on 23 May 2024.

Notes
Although the surrounding district is officially written 竹の塚 (with hiragana の), the station name uses the katakana ノ — making 竹ノ塚 frequently mis-spelt; pronunciation is also commonly mistaken, with 'takenoduka' attempted instead of the correct 'takenotsuka'.
