History

Horikiri Station opened on 1 April 1902 with the inaugural Azumabashi (now Tokyo Sky Tree) to Kita-Senju section of Tobu Railway's Isesaki Line, on a former alignment slightly east of the present site. It closed temporarily on 15 July 1905 with the opening of the Kameido Line and was formally decommissioned on 4 April 1908. The line was rerouted on 1 July 1923 to make way for the Arakawa flood-channel works, and on 1 October 1924 the station reopened in its present position on the new alignment. The station number TS 07 was introduced on 17 March 2012 and platform departure melodies followed on 27 September 2012. Horikiri now has the lowest ridership of any station within the branded Tobu Sky Tree Line section.

Notes

The Horikiri district that gave the station its name actually lies across the Arakawa flood-channel and the Ayase River on the Katsushika Ward side; the two halves of the original area were severed when the flood-channel was dug in the early 20th century.
