History

Araiyakushi-mae Station opened on 16 April 1927 on what is now the Seibu Shinjuku Line in Nakano. The original island platform was rebuilt as opposed side platforms on 12 July 1960, and a footbridge between the two entered use on 10 March 1969. The north exit followed on 16 June 1975 and a new south depot on 30 October 1981. Automatic fare gates entered service on the south side in February 1992 and on the north in 1993. With the last train on 2 August 2018 the original footbridge and north exit were retired, replaced from 3 August by a temporary mid-platform bridge serving the ongoing Nakai–Nogata grade-separation works. Station numbering in fiscal 2012 designated the stop SS05.

Notes

Because the platforms sit on a tight curve that obstructs the driver's view of the inbound platform, trains have sounded a warning whistle after clearing the preceding crossing on every approach since the 1969 footbridge was added.
