History

Enzan Station opened on 11 June 1903 as a Japanese Government Railways stop when the Chūō Main Line was extended between Hajikano (today’s Kai-Yamato) and Kōfu. Freight handling continued until 1 February 1984. A new elevated station building was completed on 3 September 1986. With the JNR breakup on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR East, and Suica IC service began on 16 October 2004. An elevator linking the platforms to the station building opened on 5 March 2011, and a south-exit elevator opened in 2013, making Enzan the first stop in the Kyōtō district with barrier-free access on both sides. From 2019 to 2020 the Azusa limited express temporarily skipped the station before two daily stops were restored.

Notes

Enzan's downbound platform (track 1) has a dedicated boarding gate for the JR East cruise sleeper Train Suite Shiki-shima, one of relatively few stations equipped to handle the train.
