History
Suhara Station opened on 1 December 1909 as the temporary terminus of the government-owned Chūō West Line in the village of Ōkuwa, Nagano Prefecture. It became a through station less than a year later when the line was extended to Agematsu in October 1910, and the rebranded Chūō Main Line absorbed it in May 1911. Freight handling ended in 1972 and parcel handling in 1984, and the station was destaffed in 1985. On 1 April 1987 it transferred to JR Central with the privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The wooden station building dating from 1909 is still in use.
