History

Ina-Hongō Station, on JR Central's Iida Line in the town of Iijima in Nagano Prefecture's Kamiina District, opened on 23 July 1918 as a station of the Ina Electric Tramway, later renamed the Ina Electric Railway. On 1 August 1943, the Ina Electric Railway was nationalised and absorbed into the Iida Line, putting the station under the Ministry of Railways and later Japanese National Railways. Freight and parcel handling ended on 1 December 1971. The station became unmanned on 24 February 1983 following CTC introduction, and joined JR Central on 1 April 1987. The current waiting-room building was completed in February 2009.
