History

Kitami Station opened on 1 April 1927 as one of the original stops on the Odawara Line of the predecessor of today's Odakyu Electric Railway. Throughout the 1990s the station was completely rebuilt as part of the line's quadruple-tracking project: the ground-level platforms reached by an overbridge were replaced by elevated side platforms flanking four tracks, allowing through expresses to pass without stopping. The new building entered use on 27 April 1997, and quadruple-track operation began that 23 June. Station numbering as OH15 was introduced in January 2014. Today the depot servicing many Odawara Line trains lies just east of the platforms.

Notes

Although officially located in Setagaya Ward, about a third of the elevated platforms extend across the boundary into Komae City, making Kitami the westernmost station of Setagaya.
