History

Shimbamba Station opened on 15 October 1976 as a consolidated replacement for two earlier stations — Kitabamba Station (北馬場駅) and Minamibamba Station (南馬場駅) — on the Keikyū Main Line during the line's elevation works at the section between Kitashinagawa and Aomonoyokochō. The two predecessor stations had opened on 8 May 1904 with the Keihin Electric Railway's Shinagawa - Yawata section. Southbound trains shared an elevated platform from 27 August 1975 during transitional works, with the station signs reading "Kitabamba·Minamibamba". When the northbound platform's elevation was completed on 15 October 1976, the consolidated station was renamed Shimbamba Station. Keikyū introduced station numbering on 21 October 2010, when Shimbamba was assigned the number KK03.

Notes

Although Shimbamba is served only by short local trains (four and six-car sets), its platforms remain about 200 m long — long enough for eleven-car trains. This is because the consolidation in 1976 kept ticket gates at the locations of both former stations, preserving access from the original Kitabamba and Minamibamba neighbourhoods.
