History

Ōtsuki Station opened on 1 October 1902 with the extension of the government-built Chūō Main Line from Torisawa, handling both passengers and freight. The Fuji Horse Tramway began calling at the station in January 1903; its rail successor, the Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway (today Fuji Sanroku Electric Railway / Fujikyuko Line), opened its line into Ōtsuki on 19 June 1929. JNR freight ceased on 1 February 1984, and the station passed to JR East at privatisation on 1 April 1987. Suica acceptance began on 18 November 2001 (JR East) and 14 March 2015 (Fujikyuko), and a new station forecourt opened on 15 June 2012.

Notes

The wooden log-built station building, completed in November 1928 in an alpine-lodge style, was selected for the Kanto Station Best Hundred list in 1997 for the way it blends into the surrounding mountains.
