History
Shin-Yurigaoka Station opened on 1 June 1974 in the Manpukuji neighbourhood of Asao-ku, Kawasaki, as a greenfield junction designed and built by Odakyu. The site was chosen partly so that express trains could overtake locals on six parallel tracks that no closer Tokyo location could accommodate. The Odawara Line called here from day one and the brand-new Tama Line departed eastward from the same platforms. Special-express Romancecar services began stopping in December 2000 with the launch of the "Home Way" trains, and station numbering OH23 was added in January 2014. A 6.5 km extension of the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line from Azamino to Shin-Yurigaoka is under environmental assessment, with completion targeted for 2030.
