History

Ōkurayama Station opened on 17 June 1983 as the temporary terminus of the Kobe Municipal Subway's Seishin–Yamate Line. When the line was extended through to Shin-Kōbe on 18 June 1985 the station became an intermediate stop. From the introduction of Rapid services on 9 July 1993 some trains began passing through. The 17 January 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake suspended service; operations resumed on 16 February 1995, and rapid services that had been halted after the quake were formally abolished on 21 July of the same year. From 2007 to 2015 the station carried 'Minatogawa-jinja-mae' as a paid sub-name, and a subsequent name-plate advertisement contract ran until March 2019.
