History
Shimoichi Station serves Daisen, Tottori Prefecture, on the San'in Main Line, 297.7 km from Kyoto. It opened on 28 August 1903 with the official-railway extension from Yabase (today's Urayasu) to Mikuriya, and the line was officially designated the San'in Main Line on 12 October 1909. Freight handling ended in 1962, operations were contracted out in 1972, and parcel handling and staffing were withdrawn on 14 March 1985. JR West took over on 1 April 1987, and in August 2020 part of the wooden station building was renovated into a café. ICOCA acceptance is scheduled for spring 2027.

Notes
Despite the name, Shimoichi Station is not actually in the Shimoichi district — the namesake neighbourhood lies some 600 metres to the southwest, and even the local Shimoichi post office stands outside the district itself.
