History
Tomari Station opened on 15 May 1905 with the official railway's extension between Aoya and Matsuzaki, in what is now the town of Yurihama, Tōhaku District, Tottori Prefecture. It joined the San'in Main Line at the 12 October 1909 line-naming, and after losing freight (1963), agency status (1972) and parcel handling (1984), passed to JR West with the 1 April 1987 privatisation of Japanese National Railways. The station was unstaffed in 1991, and a new building was completed on 30 July 2022. ICOCA service began on 15 March 2025.

Notes
The 2022 station building was deliberately designed with a rounded roof evoking the waves of the Sea of Japan, and its waiting room is finished with Tottori-grown cedar and cypress timber.
