History
Hon-Atsugi Station opened on 1 April 1927 as Sagami-Atsugi Station on the Odawara Express Railway (today's Odakyu Odawara Line). Express service began on 15 October 1927, and on 1 June 1944 the station was renamed Hon-Atsugi to distinguish it from the simultaneously renamed Atsugi Station on the former Sagami Railway. Rebuilding raised the line to elevated tracks between December 1974 and January 1976, and continuous grade-separation was completed on 29 March 1977. Through running with the Chiyoda Line began on 31 March 1978, and the Odakyu Mylord shopping mall above the station opened on 23 March 1982. Large-aperture platform-edge doors entered service in 2023.

Notes
Hon-Atsugi has the highest passenger volume of any privately operated station in Japan that lacks a connecting or transfer service to another railway company.
