History
Chajo Station opened on 2 June 1914 as Kamikawate Station on what is now the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line, and was renamed Chajo on 14 December of the same year. The Chajo inspection depot was added on 28 December 1956 (later redesignated a sub-depot). The station was destaffed on 1 December 1967, and an unattended-station guidance system entered service on 25 December 1992. A centralised station management system was installed on 6 December 2005 and Tranpas was introduced eight days later. Platforms were raised in March 2006, and manaca IC cards were rolled out on 11 February 2011.

Notes
The 0.4 km gap between Chajo Station and the adjacent Kanō Station is the shortest distance between two stations anywhere on the Meitetsu network; a planned elevation project will close both stations and replace them with a single combined facility.
