History

Kurami Station opened on 1 April 1926 as the initial terminus of the Sagami Railway's line from Chigasaki, and the line was extended to Atsugi on 15 July of the same year. The railway was nationalised on 1 June 1944 and became the Sagami Line of the Japanese Government Railways. Freight handling ended on 1 February 1961, and the station became unstaffed in October 1962. Ownership passed to JR East on 1 April 1987 at JNR's privatisation, and the Suica IC card began service on 18 November 2001. The original concrete station building, with an arched entrance matching nearby Shake Station, has stood since 1926; an elevator was added in March 2021.
