History

Torami Station opened on 15 December 1925 as a station of the Railway Ministry, handling both passengers and freight on what is now JR East's Sotobō Line. Freight operations ended on 1 October 1962, and baggage handling was scaled back from 1969 before being discontinued entirely on 1 July 1972, when the station was unstaffed. With the privatisation of Japanese National Railways on 1 April 1987, the station came under JR East. Suica was introduced on 16 October 2004 and the station was incorporated into the Tokyo metropolitan suburban area. The original station building, converted from an old freight car, was demolished in 2006 and replaced by a newly constructed building that entered service on 1 February 2007.

Notes

Until 2006 the station building was an old freight car that had been repurposed and parked permanently next to the platform.
