History

Nukuta Station opened on 15 November 1935 as the temporary terminus of the privately operated Sanshin Railway's extension from Kadoshima, located in present-day Yasuoka, Shimoina District, Nagano Prefecture. When the line was extended to Mantō (now Hiraoka) on 26 April 1936 the station became an intermediate stop. The Sanshin Railway was nationalised into the Iida Line on 1 August 1943, and the station passed to JR Central at JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987. Goods handling ended on 16 January 1984 and the station was destaffed on 31 March 1998. The limited express "Inaji", originally a New-Year and Bon-only stop, has called daily since 1 October 2005.

Notes

Although Nukuta is in Yasuoka village, the station is the de-facto gateway to neighbouring Anan town and the nearest stop to Anan High School, whose pupils account for much of the daily traffic.
