History

Tajimi Station is on the JR Central Chūō Main Line and is the terminus of the Taita Line in Tajimi, Gifu, 360.7 km from Tokyo. It opened on 25 July 1900 as the terminus of the government railway from Nagoya, then became a through station when the line was extended to Nakatsu (today's Nakatsugawa) on 21 December 1902. The Tōno Railway reached the station on 28 December 1918 as the New-Tajimi Station, and the two facilities were merged when the Tōno line was nationalised in September 1926 to become the Taita Line. Operation passed to JR Central at JNR's privatisation on 1 April 1987, and an elevated overhead concourse came into use on 1 November 2009.

Notes

The 1964 second-generation reinforced-concrete station building cost 89 million yen, of which the city of Tajimi contributed 76 million; it stood until the elevated overhead concourse replaced it in 2009.
