History
Naka-Otai Station opened on 6 August 1912 on the Meitetsu Inuyama Line. It was promoted to a semi-express stop on 17 September 1974, but lost that status when the semi-express category was abolished on 29 October 1990. The station was elevated as part of a wider grade-separation programme on 27 October 1991, gaining eight-car-length platforms in the process. It became unattended on 15 February 2004 when the Tranpass magnetic-fare system was introduced. Manaca IC ticketing began on 11 February 2011. A barrier-free retrofit, including platform-gap reduction and accessible toilets, is scheduled for fiscal 2025.

Notes
Although the station is normally served only by local trains, a small number of weekday morning expresses make a special stop at Naka-Otai and neighbouring Shimo-Otai to help relieve peak-hour crowding on the Inuyama Line.
