History

Kintetsu Yatomi Station opened on 26 June 1938 as Kankyu Yatomi (関急弥富) Station with the inauguration of the Kansai Express Electric Railway's Kuwana – Kanky Nagoya section. It became Sankyu Yatomi (参急弥富) Station on 1 January 1940 when Sangū Express Electric Railway absorbed the Kansai Express Electric Railway, was renamed Kankyu Yatomi again on 15 March 1941 after Ōsaka Electric Tram's reorganisation produced Kansai Express Railway and assigned the line to the Nagoya Line, and on 1 June 1944 became Kinki Nippon Yatomi (近畿日本弥富) Station with the merger that created Kintetsu. The present name Kintetsu Yatomi was adopted on 1 March 1970. Express services began calling here from 18 March 1976. The station was reconstructed as an elevated-bridge structure for the 1994 Wakashachi National Sports Festival, with the bridge-style station house opened on 23 September 1994. PiTaPa IC ticketing was introduced on 1 April 2007, and the station has since become unstaffed at all times. It carries station code E11.
