History

Nagashima Station opened on 11 November 1899 as a stop on the Kansai Railway between Yatomi and Kuwana, in present-day Kuwana, Mie Prefecture. Nationalisation followed on 1 October 1907, and the line was redesignated as part of the Kansai Main Line in October 1909. Freight handling was abolished on 15 February 1960, and the station has been unmanned since 1 October 1970. With the 1 April 1987 privatisation of the JNR, it became a station of JR Central, where it received station number CJ06 when numbering was introduced in March 2018. TOICA contactless ticketing has been available at the station since 25 November 2006 via simplified IC readers.
