History

Shin-Anjō Station is the junction of the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line and the 24.7-kilometre Nishio Line in Anjō, Aichi, 38.5 kilometres from Toyohashi. It opened on 1 June 1923 as Imamura Station on the Aichi Electric Railway, the Hekikai Electric Railway connected through to Yonezu in July 1926, and both companies joined Meitetsu in 1935 and 1944 respectively. A four-storey north-exit building with an underground concourse was completed in March 1969 and the station was renamed Shin-Anjō on 1 May 1970. After being upgraded to a limited-express stop in 2005, the underground concourse was replaced by a bridge-over-tracks station building between 2020 and 2021, and from 2024 the city and prefecture began a study toward elevating the line.
