History
Tōfukuji Station, in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto, is jointly served by the Keihan Main Line (KH36) and JR West Nara Line (JR-D02), with platforms running side-by-side and a connecting transfer wicket. The Keihan side opened on 15 April 1910 with the Tenmabashi-to-Gojō section. Then-JNR did not open its Nara Line platform until 27 December 1957, and even then sold tickets through Keihan's office until the JR side gained a bridge-over-tracks station building in December 1993. From 6 November 2011 a flat-grade transfer wicket between the Keihan up platform and the JR down platform was opened for daytime use, and station numbering was added on the JR side on 17 March 2018. The station handles heavy traffic to Tōfuku-ji temple during the autumn-foliage season.

Notes
Demand peaks so dramatically during autumn foliage at Tōfuku-ji temple that 23 November 2008 set a one-day record of 48,000 passengers at the Keihan side alone, and JR West sends staff from Kyoto and Uji stations specifically to handle the crowds.
