History

Although the Nara Line itself had run through this part of Uji since 1896, no station was provided at Rokujizō until JR West opened the present elevated stop on 22 October 1992. A second Rokujizō Station, the southern terminus of the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tōzai Line, was opened nearby on 26 November 2004; it is the only Tōzai Line station located outside Kyoto City limits. The JR and subway stations sit close together at ground and underground level, while a separately operated Keihan Uji Line station of the same name lies about 400 m to the south-west. Station numbering JR-D06 was introduced on the Nara Line in March 2018.

Notes

Rokujizō on the Kyoto Subway Tōzai Line is the only station on that line located outside the boundaries of Kyoto City itself.
