History

Kusu Station opened on 22 December 1917 as the then-terminus of the Ise Railway's extension from Chiyozaki, in present-day Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. It became an intermediate stop on 25 October 1919 with the further extension to Kaiyamamichi. The Ise Railway was reorganised into Ise Electric Railway in 1926, then absorbed by Sangū Express Electric Railway in 1936 as the Ise Line, renamed the Nagoya Line in 1938. After the 1941 Osaka Electric Tramway merger formed Kansai Express Railway, and the 1944 merger with Nankai Electric Railway formed Kinki Nippon Railway (Kintetsu), Kusu became a Kintetsu Nagoya Line station. Two pass-only tracks were added between the two side platforms when the station was reconfigured for waiting service on 28 March 1994, and PiTaPa IC card service began on 1 April 2007.

Notes

Kusu has the unusual configuration of two side platforms separated by two pass-only tracks; the platforms are sized for three-car trains but engineered to hold six-car deadhead trains for waiting service.
