History
Takedao Station opened on 25 January 1899 on the Hankaku Railway, which was nationalised in 1907 and renamed the Fukuchiyama Line in 1912. The station originally stood on the riverside single-track route, but on 1 August 1986 the section between Namaze and Dōjō was replaced by a new electrified double-track alignment, and Takedao was relocated to its present site half on the 2nd Mukogawa Bridge and half inside the 1st Takedao Tunnel. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West, and the "JR Takarazuka Line" nickname was adopted on 13 March 1988. Station number JR-G59 was assigned in March 2018.

Notes
The elevated platforms straddle the 2nd Mukogawa Bridge and the 1st Takedao Tunnel — the only Fukuchiyama Line station where half the platform is inside a tunnel and the other half spans a river.
