History

Takatsuki Station opened on 26 July 1876 when the government railway between Osaka and Mukōmachi began provisional service; it was the only intermediate station on the single-track line and was therefore used by trains in both directions to cross. Stonework salvaged from Takatsuki Castle was reused in the rail bed. The Tōkaidō Line designation followed in 1895. Successive upgrades made the station a Rapid stop in 1957, brought a new overhead concourse in 1979, and added Special Rapid stops in 1990. JNR privatisation transferred it to JR West on 1 April 1987. On 26 March 2016 new outer-line platforms 1 and 6 opened, making Takatsuki a regular limited-express stop for the first time, and station number JR-A38 was assigned in March 2018.

Notes

Takatsuki's three platform faces use three different platform-door systems — vertically-rising rope barriers on tracks 1 and 6 (the first in Japan to enter regular service), three-door sliding gates on 2 and 5, and four-door twin-door gates on 3 and 4.
