History

Namaze Station opened on 8 June 1898 as Arimaguchi Station, the terminus of the Hankaku Railway's extension from Takarazuka and a gateway for travellers heading on to Arima. It was renamed Namaze on 25 March 1899 once the line was pushed through to Sanda. After nationalisation in 1907, the line was redesignated the Fukuchiyama Line in 1912. In August 1986 the section between Namaze and Dōjō was switched onto a new tunnelled alignment ahead of full electrification that November, and the original riverside trackbed has since become a popular hiking trail. JR West took over at privatisation in 1987, and station numbering JR-G57 was introduced in March 2018.

Notes

The disused original alignment between Namaze and Takedao now forms a well-known hiking trail, complete with unlit tunnels that hikers must navigate with their own torches.
