History

Ibaraki-shi Station opened on 16 January 1928 as Ibaraki-machi Station when the Shin-Keihan Railway extended its line from Awaji to Takatsuki-machi (today's Takatsuki-shi). It took its current name on 1 January 1948, when Ibaraki was incorporated as a city. Through mergers — Keihan Electric Railway in 1930 and Keihanshin Express Railway (Hankyu's forerunner) in 1943 — it has been operated by Hankyu ever since. Continuous grade-separation works begun in 1981 raised the station onto elevated tracks between 1988 and 1990, with the project completed in March 1992. Limited Express services began in March 2001, and Hankyu's system-wide numbering in December 2013 gave it the designation HK-69.

Notes

When Hankyu rebuilt the station alongside Takatsuki-shi during the late-1980s elevation works, the two stations were given matching layouts; to distinguish them, Ibaraki-shi's platform supports and waiting-room rooflines were painted red.
