History
Sanagu Station opened on 15 January 1897 as a general station with the Kansai Railway's extension from Tsuge to the original Ueno Station, now Iga-Ueno. The Kansai Railway was nationalised on 1 October 1907, and the section was designated as part of the Kansai Main Line under the rail-naming reform of 12 October 1909. Freight operations ceased on 1 August 1970. The station became unstaffed under a simple-commission arrangement on 1 April 1983. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. ICOCA usage was enabled on 13 March 2021. The station is located in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and consists of two side platforms connected by a roofless footbridge.

Notes
Sanagu station is operated as a simple-commission stop where local civic group "Sanagu Station Construction Operation Committee" handles ticketing rather than a JR West employee.
