History
JR Miyamaki Station opened on 1 December 1952 as Kamitanabe Station on the Japanese National Railways Katamachi Line, a single-platform unstaffed stop in what is now Kyōtanabe, Kyoto Prefecture. With the privatisation of JNR on 1 April 1987 it passed to JR West, and the line’s nickname Gakkentoshi Line was adopted in March 1988. The station was renamed to its current form on 8 March 1997 to align with the adjacent Kintetsu Miyamaki Station. Elevation works began in December 1999 and were completed on 16 March 2002, when the relocated station became an island platform with passing tracks. An elevator entered service in December 2010, and station numbering JR-H22 followed in March 2018.
