History
Kozakai Station opened on 13 March 1898 as a station on the now-defunct Toyokawa Railway, a private line connecting Toyohashi with Toyokawa in Aichi Prefecture. From 1 April 1926, the Aichi Electric Railway (later part of Meitetsu) also began service here, making the station a junction. The Toyokawa Railway was nationalised on 1 August 1943 to form part of the Iida Line. The Meitetsu branch closed in December 1954. Freight services ended in 1979, and with JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR Central. A new station building was completed in February 2002, and station number CD03 was assigned in March 2018.
