History
Wake Station opened on 18 March 1891 with the Sanyo Railway’s extension between Mitsuishi and Okayama, in what is now Wake town in Okayama Prefecture. The Sanyo Railway was nationalised on 1 December 1906, and the line was designated the San’yō Main Line from October 1909. On 1 January 1923, the Kataue Railway opened a junction station at Wake. Freight services ended on 15 August 1971 and parcel handling on 1 February 1985. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West, and the Kataue Railway closed on 1 July 1991. The Midori-no-madoguchi ticket office ended service on 22 February 2019, and station numbering JR-S09 was introduced in September 2020.
