History

Miho-Misumi Station opened on 1 September 1922 when the San’in Main Line was extended from Sufu, making it the temporary terminus in what is now Hamada, Shimane Prefecture. The line was further extended to Iwami-Masuda Station (now Masuda) on 26 December 1923. Freight operations ended on 26 March 1978 and parcel handling on 14 March 1985. With JNR privatisation on 1 April 1987 the station passed to JR West. Freight resumed in April 1998 but was again abolished in April 2014. The ticket office closed on 12 March 2021 and the station became unstaffed on 1 April 2021. Following a November 2024 landslide, services beyond the station to Masuda were suspended until reopening on 30 November.
