History

Nigawa Station opened on 28 December 1923 on the Hanshin Kyūkō Dentetsu (later Hankyu) Saihō Line between Obayashi and Kōtōen. The Saihō Line was renamed the Imazu Line on 18 December 1926. An additional alighting-only platform was built in 1972 to handle racecourse crowds, and a second underpass on the Takarazuka side was added in 1977. Station numbering (HK-25) was introduced on 21 December 2013.

Between 15 December 1943 and 21 September 1945, an additional station named Kashio was inserted between Kobayashi and Nigawa to serve commuters of the Kawanishi Aircraft Company factory on the site that, after the war, became JRA Hanshin Racecourse.
