History

Aino Station opened on 22 April 2001 on the Tōkaidō Main Line between Kakegawa and Fukuroi. It was built specifically to serve the nearby Shizuoka "Ecopa" Stadium, one of the 2002 FIFA World Cup venues; ground was broken in October 1998. TOICA acceptance began on 1 March 2008. The station is a bridge-style building with one island platform carrying two tracks and a usable length of 220 metres; the Tōkaidō Shinkansen passes immediately alongside. It is contract-staffed under Fukuroi Station, with extra staff drafted in from neighbouring stations during concerts and J-League night matches at Ecopa.
