History

Kayashima Station opened on 15 April 1910 with the inauguration of the Keihan Main Line, in what is now Neyagawa, Osaka Prefecture. Wartime consolidation in 1943 placed it under Keihanshin Kyuko (later Hankyu), and the separation of 1949 returned it to the present Keihan Electric Railway. A major quadruple-tracking and elevation project ran from 1972 to 1980; the elevated layout was redesigned in 1973 to preserve a sacred camphor tree on the down platform, which still grows through the station roof today. With the completion of quadruple tracking in March 1980, Kayashima became a stop for semi-express services. The station was selected for the second Kinki Station Hyakusen in 2001.

Notes

A large camphor tree growing through the station roof was preserved during the 1970s elevation works, with the design changed to accommodate it.
